Bicycle Hire

Available at reception. Cycling is a popular activity in Lanzarote. The rugged terrain and near perfect climate makes it a perfect environment for mountain biking. You will regularly see men and women training for the international Ironman triathlon competition here, as the hills make it a tough challenge for any would-be competition cyclist. Cycling tours are available with various companies who hire cycles of all types.

Trekking & Walking

Few holidaymakers realise that Lanzarote has more to offer than just beaches and sunshine. The extraordinary landscape and rugged terrain make it a fascinating place for trekking. Serious walkers may find other islands more challenging, but ramblers will be in their element on Lanzarote. You can join an organised tour to explore the island, or you can simply create your own unique experience. A trip over to La Graciosa, the small island at the northern tip of Lanzarote, is well worth it. Here you can walk from one side of the island to the other in around an hour or under, or even walk around the whole perimeter of the island on your day trip. You will be met with the most exquisite beaches and clear views to the other small islets of Alegranza and Montaña Clara.

Trekking round the island is really the best way to see it, and to explore all the different terrains that exist here, from the gentle rolling hills to the dramatic cliff edges. A great walk is to discover the coves and beaches of Papagayo near to Playa Blanca, which mostly can only be accessed on foot.

There is a 7km pedestrian promenade along the coast just across the road from Casas Del Sol.

Golf

Lanzarote currently has two 18 hole courses which are open all year and one is under construction in Playa Blanca itself and should be open in 2010. Both of the existing courses, at Puerto del Carmen (20mins drive) and Costa Teguise (30 mins drive) have clubs, trolleys and electric buggies available for hire.

You will also find mini-golf centres in all resorts on the island, including three at Playa Blanca.

Tennis

There are two courts at Casas Del Sol and equipment hire is possible. In addition there are many tennis schools where you can book lessons to learn how to play or simply to improve your game.

Swimming

In addition to the swimming pools at Casas Del Sol the various local golden sandy beaches are all ideal for safe bathing. At Costa Teguise there is waterpark with plenty of slides and pools.

Horse Riding

Centres are available that offer lessons for beginners, short trips for novice riders and longer trips for the more accomplished.

Watersports

These are numerous and include submarine trips, deep sea fishing, sailing (personal hire or with skipper), boat trips and snorkelling which are available at the nearby Marina Rubicon or the port which is just opposite Casas del Sol. Windsurfing, jet ski, water skiing and para-sailing are all available in a specially reserved area of Playa Dorada beach which is a few minutes walk away.

Surfing

Lanzarote regularly holds top international surfing competitions at Famara beach on the west coast. This sport has recently become very popular and there are now several schools offering board hire and lessons for all ages and abilities. Playa Blanca now has its own surf school which takes people to the beach at Famara.

Scuba Diving

There are several underwater diving centres in Playa Blanca which offer courses and trips for all levels as well as gear hire for licensed divers. The waters around Lanzarote offer fantastic visibility and a large and colourful variety of marine life.

Kite Surfing

This is a spectacular sport that has recently become both popular and fashionable on the west and north coast beaches of Lanzarote.

Hang Gliding

Lanzarote is the ideal winter hang gliding break. The island will take on a whole new perspective when seen from the air and additionally with its reliable weather patterns is particularly well suited to the sport. The reliable soaring conditions and pleasant all year round temperatures, makes it perfect for hang gliding at any time.

Not a sport for the feint hearted, it gives you the freedom of the air. Many companies organize courses and group trips to Lanzarote, and on island there are companies who can supervise the activity. There is also tandem hang gliding available. The main spot on the island for this sport is off the cliffs at Famara, located in the north west of the island.
